Review: La Gloria Cubana

The “original boutique cigar” from Little Havana in Miami! This awesome churchill served as my last in a hat trick of beach sticks. Sun, sand, waves and some killer Spanish classical music that just happened to pop up on Pandora cemented this smoke in my memory, as if Segovia was sitting under our pop-up sipping a Cacique and plucking this baby out. Yes, this was my first LGC and I enjoyed it so much I have since purchased several more including the Serie ‘R’. To my still naive palate, this spicy lady is a joy to puff on.Β  This iconic medium-full bodied blend has Little Havana roots and comes from the Dominican Republic. The beautiful oily Sumatra wrapper will set your crave meter to Holy Crap in a matter of seconds!

I’m a big fan of churchill vitolas simply because I can enjoy them for a bit longer, in most cases. With a nice looking Ecuador Sumatra wrapper and solid feel, this 7.0″ honey will give a perfect draw with just a punch; however, in retrospect I probably would have enjoyed its fullest flavor with a cutter due to the variety of filler leaves. Even though this is a tall gal, the 50 ring gaugeΒ  gets you to nirvana and back in a bout an hour and a half without rushing it.

Here are the stats:

Hard to believe this gal has only been around since the late sixties and will celebrate her 50th anniversary in 2018. Another great stick with an even better price point – online you can grab one of these for under $7.Β  This aromatic lady delivers a spicy, earthy profile throughout with delicious notes of coffee/espresso and wood with light toastiness on the finish. She is well balanced with smooth curves, burning evenly, even in coastal winds! Since I typically favor the Toro vitola, I’ve since purchased a few in the 6″0 x 52 Corona Gorda size. M’mm good! – In Fumo Pax!
